Craig Berube on Matthew Knies' recovery over the Leafs' winter break: "He feels a lot better... It will help with the ailing thing he's had going on"
"Berube: We wanted to just get moving again, with a lot of puck touches and skating up and down the ice. That is basically what practice was. The guys worked hard, and I thought they looked pretty good, given the amount of time they had off. Berube: It is great having him back out there. We'll see where he gets to. He is feeling good and ready to go. We'll see how it goes this week."
"Berube: It will help with the ailing thing he has going on. He feels a lot better from the break. Hopefully, it doesn't occur quickly again here. We will see how it goes, but it is going to benefit him and Morgan Rielly - who was out - to get some time off, among other guys. A lot of the guys are banged up at this time of year before the break."
The team held its first practice since the winter break, emphasizing movement with many puck touches and up-and-down skating. Dakota Joshua returned to the ice and appears feeling good and ready to rejoin lines. Matthew Knies experienced relief from lingering injury issues and showed improvement after the rest. Morgan Rielly also benefited from time off and is ready to play. Chris Tanev continues to skate on his own for the next few days to assess readiness. The team aims to carry momentum from a solid road trip and relies on consistent goaltending from a strong tandem during the upcoming stretch.
