Capitals vs. Oilers Recap: A Wild Ride in 6-5 OT Loss
"The Caps went into Alberta and took the win over Calgary before heading immediately to Edmonton for a Saturday night throwdown against Connor McDavid and some other guys who wear the same jersey as him. While it ultimately goes into the books as a loss for the Caps, that doesn't take away the fact that they played a mostly decent - albeit fairly loosey-goosey - game in the second of back-to-back outings, and got three points on the weekend."
"Minus: Five penalties is too many penalties to take against the best power play in the league, and while they did a great job to kill off the first four, that last one bit them. Caps Player of the Game: Give it to the best Connor Mc in the league (McMichael, for those unsure) for a two-point night...although honorable mention to Charlie Lindgren, who was much better than the goals-against number would suggest and basically was the reason they emerged from that first period tied."
The Capitals beat Calgary on the road and immediately traveled to Edmonton for a Saturday night game that reached overtime and ended in a 6-5 loss. The team played a mostly decent but loose game in the second of back-to-back outings and managed to collect three points on the weekend. Washington matched the Oilers goal-for-goal for much of the night, requiring more than three goals to keep pace — the first time scoring more than three since January 9. Penalties were costly, with five taken against the league's top power play; the penalty kill succeeded four times but failed on the fifth. Cole McMichael recorded a two-point night, and Charlie Lindgren’s performance in goal kept the team competitive despite the final score.
