"The Capitals have not had a ton of success this season with games that have gone past regulation, picking up just one win prior to last night (a 3-2 OT win over Tampa way back in mid-October). So the general sentiment heading into overtime in Newark last night, against one of the league's better overtime/shootout teams, was likely that of dread."
"With just about a minute remaining in overtime, Chychrun collected the puck in the neutral zone and turned on the jets - something we've seen out of him a time or two before, but made more impressive by the fact that he picked up that speed after already being on the ice for over a minute. He made his way to the front of the net, drawing two New Jersey defenders to him as Tom Wilson drove up the right side."
"Wow. Jakob Chychrun heard the "one minute remaining" announcement and seemingly remembered that the Caps can't win shootouts, so he just turned on the jets and scored it himself in a brilliant individual effort. It's his second OT winner this season, and it still isn't close to getting old. #ALLCAPS[image or embed]- Green Line Brawl ( @glb.dogfishcr.us) December 27, 2025 at 9:51 PM"
The Capitals earned an overtime win in Newark after Jakob Chychrun collected the puck in the neutral zone with roughly a minute remaining and accelerated into the attack. Chychrun reached the front of the net, drew two defenders while Tom Wilson served as a distraction, and followed up his initial shot on Jake Allen's rebound by bunting the puck into the net. The win provided an important extra point after the team had managed only one prior overtime victory all season. The performance featured a strong individual effort by Chychrun and solid team play returning from the break.
