He fell to the ice and appeared in discomfort as the team's trainer rushed out. A stretcher was brought onto the ice; medics placed an immobilized Hutson on a backboard and wheeled him out through the Zamboni entrance at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota. Hutson was moving his arms and legs before being taken off the ice and was conscious and alert while on the stretcher, communicating with teammates. He was transported to a hospital for further evaluation. Hutson had been leading Team USA in ice time and had recorded two assists and a plus-5 in the tournament's opening game.
