"It's weird. It took a bit [of time], for sure. I still keep tabs on all the guys. ... It's such an adjustment - you know everything inside and out, from the staff to the players, so to reintegrate somewhere new took a little time."
"It'll be different playing against them. These are the guys I've known for over a decade. It'll be weird seeing them on the other side."
"I prefer it this way. Going back there will be a little bit different. But I'm excited to see the guys, hang out, and just enjoy it."
Brock Nelson will face the New York Islanders for the first time since his March trade when the Colorado Avalanche play in Denver. Nelson ended an 11-year Islanders tenure with 901 games and 295 goals after extension talks with then-GM Lou Lamoriello collapsed; the trade included Cal Ritchie and a 2026 first-round pick. Nelson described the adjustment to a new team, said he still keeps tabs on former teammates, and hosted several of them for dinner. Nelson prefers the first meeting to occur in Denver rather than at UBS Arena and anticipates mixed emotions.
