Bristol Motor Speedway will not host NHL's 2027 Winter Classic, Reddit rumor untrue
""We believe we will continue to show that Bristol Motor Speedway is a facility for lots of different types of events," the track's president, Jerry Caldwell, told Sportico. "You've got hockey and soccer that both make sense. If you want a facility that has a big open space that you can put a playing surface down...and then want to be able to host some of the largest crowds in the country, then Bristol is going to be the place to at least explore for that.""
"It is not confirmed and it is not true. From what I have been told, Bristol Motor Speedway is not the 2027 NHL Winter Classic site. https://t.co/sUZznSDa6F - Bob Pockrass (@bobpockrass) January 3, 2026"
""BMS is always interested in unique large-scale events," Bristol Motor Speedway president Jerry Caldwell told Pockrass. "The reports of a scheduled event with NHL at BMS are inaccurate, but we do look forward to welcoming fans back to The Last Great Colosseum for the Food City 500 on Sun., April 12.""
A screenshot shared on NASCAR Reddit showed an NHL.com contact page listing the 2027 Winter Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway with the Nashville Predators facing the Carolina Hurricanes on January 2. Bristol hosted the 2025 Speedway Classic that set a Major League Baseball single-game attendance record with 91,032 tickets sold and hosted officials from the NHL and other sports. Bristol Motor Speedway president Jerry Caldwell said the facility suits hockey and soccer and can host very large crowds. FOX reporter Bob Pockrass said Bristol is not the 2027 Winter Classic site and called the reports inaccurate. Caldwell confirmed the reports were inaccurate while emphasizing BMS's interest in unique large-scale events and noting the upcoming Food City 500.
