"I want to play until I get kicked out of the league."
"I was never going to take a one or two-year deal. Not even a three-year deal. That just wasn't in the cards."
"I want to play as long as I can. That's the main reason why it didn't work out in Boston. I want to play until I get kicked out of the league."
Brad Marchand sought a long-term contract and refused short-term deals, prompting stalled negotiations with the Boston Bruins. Boston reportedly offered a three-year deal before trading Marchand to the Florida Panthers amid stalled talks and the Bruins' middling performance. Marchand played a key role in Florida's second straight Stanley Cup and then signed a six-year deal worth $5.25 million per year to remain with the Panthers. Marchand stated his intention to play as long as possible and said the term he wanted was the primary reason talks with Boston failed. Don Sweeney had previously expressed interest in keeping Marchand long-term.
