Aaron Ness reaches staggering AHL games played milestone in Hershey: 'To be able to do it in a Bears jersey means a lot'
"It shows you what kind of guy he is, what kind of player he is, the character,"
"Eight hundred games is a lot of hockey games."
"Hey, Nesser, congrats on 800 American League games,"
"You know, it takes a lot of heart and a lot of dedication to get to that milestone. You're a true leader of our team. You have been the past couple years here. You come to the rink every day, smile on your face, laughing, making guys laugh, picking guys up on bad days, and that's just a testament to your character."
Aaron Ness, 35, played his 800th American Hockey League game, becoming the 45th player in AHL history to reach that mark. He is the 16th defenseman to reach 800 games in the league's 90-year history. Only nine players have reached 1,000 AHL games, including former Bears Willie Marshall, Bryan Helmer, and Mike Nykoluk. The AHL's shorter schedule and development focus make long careers rare, as many veterans move overseas or leave hockey. Longevity in the AHL requires reliability, versatility, toughness, intelligence, and leadership. Hershey honored Ness with a jumbotron tribute and teammates praised his character and leadership.
