Toronto entered the game ranked 30th in goals against on turnovers. After two periods Carolina held a 12-2 advantage in turnover chances. That turnover dominance produced a tying goal a few minutes into the third period. Joel Nystrom did not record his second NHL point, but his board play kept the puck in and enabled Logan Stankoven to work low and set up Taylor Hall's third goal of the season. A second after Nystrom's keep-in, the puck was in the net. Carolina then took the lead with Stankoven's goal.
