Weakness for Broncos' defense? Why RBs, TEs can cause issues
"Sometimes we give up too many little dunks down the field,"
"... I've said people who want to be the best are hard on themselves in the things you can objectively look at and say, 'That needs improvement.' Sometimes we do so many good, good things, but objectively that does need improvement."
"the one place you're not going to have to deal with [Broncos cornerback Pat] Surtain."
The Denver Broncos defense ranks among the NFL leaders with 68 sacks, third in scoring defense (18.3 points allowed per game), sixth in defensive EPA and the third-lowest opposing QBR (49.0). The defense, however, has a recurring vulnerability in coverage against running backs and tight ends, who have produced many of the longest offensive plays against Denver. Of six scrimmage touchdowns of at least 30 yards allowed, five were scored by tight ends or running backs, and seven of 14 pass plays of at least 30 yards went to those positions. That mismatch presents a tactical concern ahead of the AFC Championship Game against the Patriots.
