'We want to win games': Why being close in one-score games isn't enough for 0-3 Texans
""We're really close. That's the problem," Stroud said. "We just keep reiterating that we're close, and now it's time to fix the issues and be honest with one another.""
""We're going to keep having these results if we don't finish," Stroud said. "We don't take care of the ball and just do the small things. The effort is there, the physicality. Now it's just the execution.""
The Texans dropped to 0-3 following a 17-10 loss in which the offense failed to surpass 300 total yards, went 4-for-15 on third downs and committed three turnovers. A late chance on third-and-1 ended when Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen beat rookie left tackle Aireontae Ersery and tipped C.J. Stroud's pass into Antonio Johnson's interception. The defense again allowed a game-winning drive, continuing a pattern of close finishes: since Week 5 of 2023 Houston has played 25 one-score games, the most in the NFL, and gone 14-11 in those contests.
