"SANTA CLARA Robert Saleh is again leaving as the 49ers' defensive coordinator for an NFL head-coaching post, this time with the Tennessee Titans, according to multiple reports Monday night. Five years ago, Saleh split for the New York Jets, for whom he went 20-36 before being fired five games into the 2024 season. Saleh interviewed in person with the Titans earlier Monday, and, afterward, the Titans promptly declared him a finalist with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy."
"The Titans interviewed 15 candidates. The most likely candidate to replace Saleh in charge of the 49ers defense is Gus Bradley, who arrived a year ago as Kyle Shanahan's assistant head coach/defense and often gave team addresses on the eve of games. As Saleh exited the 49ers' locker room after Saturday's 41-6 divisional-round playoff loss at Seattle, he confirmed he was heading for multiple interviews in an NFL coaching cycle where 10 jobs have opened this offseason."
Robert Saleh is again departing the San Francisco 49ers to pursue an NFL head-coaching post and is a reported finalist for the Tennessee Titans. He previously left the 49ers for the New York Jets, where he went 20-36 before being fired five games into the 2024 season. The Titans interviewed 15 candidates and named Saleh and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy finalists. Saleh interviewed virtually with the Arizona Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins last week; the Dolphins hired Jeff Hafley, a former 49ers defensive backs coach who worked under Saleh. Saleh returned as 49ers defensive coordinator this season and managed a youthful, injury-hit unit, earning player praise.
