This beloved former Bills player is making an unexpected return to the AFC East
Briefly

Harrison Phillips, 29, was traded from the Minnesota Vikings to the New York Jets less than a year after signing a two-year extension and being named a team captain. The Vikings sent Phillips and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Jets for a 2026 sixth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick, agreeing to pay $3.7 million of his $7.4 million 2025 salary. Minnesota likely moved Phillips to free cap space while seeking receiver help opposite Justin Jefferson amid Jordan Addison's suspension and other injuries. The Jets also acquired Jowon Briggs and aim to bolster their defensive line. Phillips returns to the AFC East after playing for the Buffalo Bills from 2018–2021 and maintained significant community work through his Harrison's Playmakers organization, earning back-to-back Walter Payton Man of the Year nominations in Buffalo.
Minnesota named Phillips, 29, a team captain last season just days before agreeing to a two-year extension with the defensive tackle. Less than one year after extending Phillips, the Vikings sent him to the Jets in exchange for draft capital. It's believed that the Vikings may have moved on from Phillips in an attempt to free up some cap space to acquire a wide receiver via trade. The Jets, meanwhile, are looking to bolster their defensive line. In addition to acquiring Phillips, the Jets also traded for defensive tackle Jowon Briggs.
