La'el Collins has been informed he will be released as the Dallas Cowboys trim to the 53-man roster. Collins joined the team in training camp after injuries to Tyler Guyton, Rob Jones and Saahdiq Charles and played both right and left tackle in the preseason. Collins started 71 games for Dallas from 2015-21 and played for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022 before a late-season knee injury. The Cowboys activated cornerback Trevon Diggs from the physically unable to perform list after January cartilage surgery; Diggs rehabbing in south Florida triggered a $500,000 de-escalator clause. Diggs said he is unsure about availability for the Sept. 4 opener, and coaches mentioned a possible snap "pitch count." Teams must reach the 53-man limit by Tuesday.
FRISCO, Texas -- As the Dallas Cowboys look to get down to the 53-man roster limit, veteran offensive lineman La'el Collins has been among the players told he will be released, a source told ESPN. Collins joined the Cowboys during training camp after injuries on their offensive line to Tyler Guyton (knee), Rob Jones (neck) and Saahdiq Charles (knee). Collins played right and left tackle during the preseason games.
Earlier Sunday, the Cowboys activated cornerback Trevon Diggs from the physically unable to perform list. Diggs underwent surgery in January to repair a cartilage issue but opted to do his rehab in south Florida, leading the Cowboys to enforce a $500,000 de-escalator clause in his contract. If he opened the season on PUP, he would miss at least the first four games of the season.
