On February 8, San Jose police responded to a shooting at the intersection of Santa Clara Street and Market Street around 10:50 pm. An argument between two groups outside a business escalated when suspect Tyrone Asphy, 46, from Federal Way, Washington, produced a firearm and shot six adult victims. All victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Asphy fled the scene, but detectives used an automated license plate reader to identify his vehicle and subsequently identified him as the shooter. Working with the FBI and a Washington state SWAT team, officers arrested Asphy at his home on March 11 and recovered the gun used in the shooting. He is being held in King County Jail pending extradition to Santa Clara County for prosecution.
