Cam Akers was released by the New Orleans Saints as part of a 14-transaction wave ahead of the roster cut deadline. Akers signed with the Saints in June as a 2020 second-round pick and had been competing for a backup role behind Alvin Kamara. Akers posted "NFL a crazy place" on X after his release. Saints coach Kellen Moore praised Akers' ability but cited depth and Kendre Miller's performance when shaping the running back group. Akers began his career with the Los Angeles Rams and also played for the Texans and Vikings, totaling 64 carries for 297 yards and one touchdown with Minnesota last season.
