"MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers is expected to continue to start, after coach Mike McDaniel said he "earned" the opportunity. The rookie made his first NFL start in Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, completing 20 of 30 passes for 260 yards and two interceptions, playing in place of Tua Tagovailoa, who served as the team's emergency third quarterback."
""That's kind of how I had it in my mind during the game," McDaniel said. "I thought he earned some opportunities to continue to develop. I was happy how he handled the position -- that's not easy. And I think that's what's frustrating [about the loss], is it would be a lot better if it was on the rookie quarterback and I don't think it was.""
Quinn Ewers is expected to remain the Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback after earning the opportunity. The rookie started against the Cincinnati Bengals, completing 20 of 30 passes for 260 yards with two interceptions while Tua Tagovailoa served as the emergency third quarterback. Ewers completed 10 of 12 passes for 109 yards in the first half and led two touchdown drives. Miami was outscored 21-0 in the third quarter, during which the team turned the ball over three times and failed a fourth-down conversion. Coach Mike McDaniel said he would review tape but planned to allow Ewers to continue developing as the starter.
