Ready or not, it's up to 49ers' Tatum Bethune to step in for Fred Warner
""When Fred got hurt, we just gave each other a look and honestly just spoke just by looking at each other," Bethune said this week."
""We understood what needed to be done and the challenge I have ahead of me and the opportunity I have also.""
""He's the best in the league, probably a future Hall of Famer," Bethune said. "So that's big shoes to fill, honestly, and everybody knows that. I'll just be me, Tatum Bethune. I'm here for a reason. They understand my traits and attributes and that's what I'm going to do.""
Fred Warner suffered a broken and dislocated right ankle with 7:48 left in the first quarter and underwent surgery, effectively ending his season barring a miracle. Tatum Bethune will start at middle linebacker for the 49ers against the Atlanta Falcons. Bethune, a second-year player out of Florida State, was the No. 251 overall pick in the seventh round and played limited defensive snaps as a rookie. He played 45 snaps and led the team with 10 tackles against Tampa Bay. Bethune acknowledged the difficulty of replacing Warner and emphasized being himself while the team adjusts. A coverage bust by Bethune led to a 34-yard touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield.
