Raiders say Tom Brady will work closely with GM to pick Las Vegas's next head coach
"Minority owner Tom Brady will have a role in picking Carroll's successor, the team said in its statement. "Moving forward, General Manager John Spytek will lead all football operations in close collaboration with Tom Brady, including the search for the club's next coach," team owner Mark Davis said. "Together, they will guide football decisions with a shared focus on leadership, culture, and alignment with the organization's long-term vision and goals.""
"Spytek was a teammate of Brady's at Michigan where he played offensive line. He built a lengthy career as a scout for several different franchises including the Eagles, Browns, and Broncos. He and Brady overlapped again with the Buccanneers from 2020 until Brady's retirement in 2022. Spytek was Tampa Bay's director of player personnel at the time and was later promoted to assistant general manager before joining the Raiders."
Las Vegas released a statement announcing the firing of head coach Pete Carroll after a 3-14 season. The Raiders will conduct a search for their fourth coach in three years following prior firings of Josh McDaniels (2023) and Antonio Pierce (2024). General Manager John Spytek will lead football operations and the coaching search in collaboration with minority owner Tom Brady. The NFL approved Brady's limited-partner stake in the Raiders in 2024. Carroll, 74, was the oldest NFL coach last season. Las Vegas holds the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Spytek and Brady previously overlapped at Michigan and with Tampa Bay personnel roles.
