Patriots to debut new 'Rivalries' jerseys Thursday night
"These are part of the NFL's new "Rivalries" uniforms, which came out this season. Teams in the AFC East and NFC West released new city-related jerseys, which they will each only wear once during a divisional game. Similar to baseball's city-connect jerseys, teams created a design related to their community. In fitting manner as a cold November has hit, the Patriots decided to pay homage to the winter storms so often found in New England: nor'easters."
"The Patriots' new look features a "deep Storm Blue base - rugged, weathered, and worn in, like the coastline after a gale," via the Patriots website. In contrast with the blue, the helmets will be a matte white color, to portray the cold and snow during northeast winters. In addition, the 'Nor'easters' have six stars placed around the collar, to represent the six New England states of Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island."
"Lastly, the Patriots look to throw things back to the 90's, as they include vertical stripes with a mesh fabric on the numbers, much like what fans will remember from the Drew Bledsoe era. The "Rivarlies" were brought into the NFL as a way to make divisional matchups feel that much more important. The Patriots have faced one rival in their version this season, as the Buffalo Bills wore theirs in the Patriots 23-20 victory over them on Oct. 5."
A nor'easter will hit Foxborough Thursday night as the Patriots host the Jets, and New England will debut their new 'Rivalries' jerseys while seeking a 9-2 record. The jerseys are part of the NFL's Rivalries program of city-related uniforms worn once per divisional game. The Patriots' design pays homage to New England winter storms with a deep Storm Blue base described as rugged and weathered, matte white helmets to portray snow, six stars around the collar for the six New England states, and 1990s-style vertical stripes with mesh numbers evoking the Drew Bledsoe era. The Bills previously wore theirs on Oct. 5.
