Patriots reportedly set to release safety Jabrill Peppers
Briefly

New England is set to release 29-year-old safety Jabrill Peppers. Peppers remains owed $4.32 million guaranteed in 2025 from a three-year, $24 million extension signed in summer 2024 that included $11.68 million guaranteed. Peppers was a first-round pick by the Browns out of Michigan and was traded to the Giants in 2019 as part of the Odell Beckham Jr. deal. He signed with the Patriots in 2022, appeared in all 17 games that season, and started 15 games in 2023 with two interceptions, a forced fumble and 78 combined tackles. He was arrested in October 2024 on alleged domestic violence and cocaine possession charges, was later acquitted of assault and battery, and admitted to cocaine possession. He missed seven games on the Commissioner's exempt list and said in May he looked forward to a "fresh start," while teammate Kyle Dugger has been linked to trade rumors.
As Schefter noted, Peppers is still owed $4.32 million in guaranteed money on his deal in 2025. It stems from the three-year contract extension he signed with New England in the summer of 2024 that was worth $24 million, and included $11.68 million guaranteed. Originally a first-round pick by the Browns out of Michigan, Peppers was traded to the Giants in 2019 as part of a blockbuster deal that sent Odell Beckham Jr. to Cleveland.
After joining the Patriots, he became a regular contributor in the secondary. In 2022, he appeared in all 17 games. In 2023, he started 15 games for New England, grabbing two interceptions, forcing a fumble, and registering 78 combined tackles. In Oct. 2024, he was arrested in Braintree stemming from charges of alleged domestic violence and cocaine possession. He was eventually acquitted by a jury of the assault and battery charges in January, having admitted to cocaine possession.
