Spencer Rattler won the New Orleans Saints' starting quarterback job over second-round pick Tyler Shough and will start against the Arizona Cardinals on September 7. Head coach Kellen Moore praised Rattler's offseason consistency, decision-making, and playmaking with both his arm and his feet, saying Rattler earned the opportunity. Rattler appeared in seven games last season with six starts, completing 57% of passes for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns, five interceptions, and 146 rushing yards. The Las Vegas Raiders acquired Kenny Pickett from the Cleveland Browns for a 2026 fifth-round pick after Aidan O'Connell fractured his wrist and signed five-time Pro Bowl receiver Aamari Cooper, reuniting him with the team that drafted him fourth overall in 2015.
Really, really excited for him. He's done an awesome job this offseason. He's just been consistent. He's made some really good decisions throughout this whole entire process, and his ability to make plays with his arm and his feet have certainly showed up. I'm really, really excited about Spencer; he's earned this opportunity. He's going to do a tremendous job for us.
Obviously excited to be the guy going into Week One," Rattler said to reporters. "Want to lead this team, want to lead these guys. Just keep fighting, that's one thing I can promise, is putting my all on that field, and I know everybody else will. Good to gain that confidence from your coach to make that decision.
