NFL receives no tush push ban proposal this year after effort last year to ban it failed
"The Philadelphia Eagles mastered the short-yardage strategy behind the strong legs of quarterback Jalen Hurts and a powerful offensive line. After the Eagles won the Super Bowl following the 2024 season, the Green Bay Packers authored a rule change proposal to prohibit offensive players from pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping or encircling a runner, which would have effectively outlawed the tush push."
"I think there's some things that teams did this year that they did a good job of being able to stop it. We either have to get back to being able to be as dominant as we were at it, or we find new avenues to be able to convert on third down or in the red zone."
The tush push, a quarterback sneak strategy perfected by the Philadelphia Eagles, remains legal in the NFL after no teams submitted proposals to ban it this year. The Green Bay Packers previously proposed prohibiting offensive players from pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or encircling a runner, which would have eliminated the play. The proposal received 22-10 support but fell two votes short of passage. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst stated the team has no plans to pursue another ban. The Eagles found the play less effective in 2025 and incorporated trick plays from the formation. Coach Nick Sirianni acknowledged teams improved at stopping it and indicated the Eagles must either dominate with it again or develop alternative third-down conversion strategies.
