Missed Cowboys flight one factor in Diggs' release
"It was not the only factor. I'm not the Grinch that Stole Christmas. I love Christmas. I love my family. But at the end of the day we have a protocol that we go through, and the process was not followed."
"My rule is the Cowboys fly up together as a team and they return as a team."
"unless there is a family emergency."
Brian Schottenheimer enforced a team travel protocol requiring players to fly with the team and return together, allowing exceptions only for family emergencies. Trevon Diggs asked to remain after the Cowboys' win in Washington D.C. to be with family, was denied, and skipped the flight home. The Cowboys released Diggs following that breach and a string of prior disputes, including performing rehab in south Florida that triggered a $500,000 de-escalator in his base salary, questioning defensive scheme and coverage assignments, and injuries including an ACL tear and subsequent concussion and right-knee issues that led to injured reserve placement.
