Mike Vrabel wins Coach of the Year Award just days before Super Bowl LX
"Although he became the frontrunner later in the season, Vrabel had some stiff competition in the category, most notably Liam Coen, who helped lead the Jaguars to the playoffs, and Mike Macdonald, who will be coaching the Seahawks against Vrabel in this weekend's Super Bowl. They were certainly impressive with what they accomplished, but none more than what we saw from Vrabel in his first season with the Patriots."
"Some might feel that he took over one of the better teams in last year's cycle, but that's not entirely true. Vrabel walked into a messy situation after a failed season under Jerod Mayo, and it wasn't just their on-field performance that needed fixing. The locker room was also in shambles, and they needed a fearless leader who could revamp the team from top to bottom, inside and out, and from what we've seen this season, that's exactly what Vrabel was able to do."
Mike Vrabel won the 2025 Coach of the Year Award, his second such honor, becoming the seventh head coach in NFL history to win with different franchises. Josh McDaniels won Assistant Coach of the Year. Vrabel faced competition from Liam Coen and Mike Macdonald. Vrabel inherited a messy situation after a 4-13 season under Jerod Mayo, including a fractured locker room. He engineered a 4-13 to 14-3 turnaround, improved the offense from 26th to 5th and the defense from 20th to 2nd, and fostered closer team cohesion that translated to on-field success and a Super Bowl appearance.
