Mike Vrabel says he benched Christian Barmore to 'protect the team'
""I just had to make a decision. My job's to protect the team,""
""So when there are actions that I don't feel like are commensurate with what we want to do here, I have to make a decision. And we move on.""
Christian Barmore has been a key defensive tackle for New England, regularly disrupting opposing offenses and playing about 65 percent of defensive snaps entering Sunday's game. Coach Mike Vrabel sat Barmore for the entire first quarter of the Browns game after actions Vrabel judged not commensurate with team standards, then returned him to play in the second quarter. Barmore finished with one tackle and pressured a quarterback that resulted in a fourth-quarter safety. Barmore signed a four-year, $84 million extension in April 2024 and has recorded 12 tackles through eight games while returning from 2024 blood-clotting issues.
