Second-year general manager Adam Peters carried five wide receivers on his initial 53-man roster while continuing to pursue veteran reinforcements. Kendrick Bourne became available after departing the New England Patriots and drew interest from multiple teams before the Vikings acquired Adam Thielen. Peters has a prior relationship with Bourne from the 49ers where Bourne entered as an undrafted free agent. Bourne is scheduled to visit the 49ers on Monday and the Commanders on Tuesday, and a framework for a possible contract exists with both clubs. The Commanders offer a roster with a rising superstar quarterback and Super Bowl aspirations for 2025.
He was part of the San Francisco 49ers' brain trust that picked him up in undrafted free agency. The wideout repaid this faith, and he could potentially end up on the Commanders in the not-too-distant future. According to Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network, Bourne is scheduled to meet with the Commanders on Tuesday. He's going to visit with his old employers in San Francisco on Monday.
Bourne could welcome a return to the place where it all started at this stage of his playing career. However, the Commanders are an attractive destination with a superstar quarterback and lofty ambitions to reach the Super Bowl in 2025. Having a previous connection to Peters only strengthens Washington's position. It could legitimately go either way, but there is now a legitimate path for Bourne to join the Commanders if everything goes according to plan during their meeting.
