""Just another opportunity given by God to further glorify His name and show people in similar situations and journeys as mine that it is indeed possible,""
""I'm happy for him and his family and the opportunities he continues to earn through hard work and determination,""
""His humbleness throughout this process is truly admirable ... Proud of my coaches and support staff that helped Esa along the way through this great journey. "We're not done yet! Go Esa! Go Gladiators!""
Esa Pole, a 6-foot-7, 319-pound left tackle who never played organized football until college, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and joined the 53-man roster. Pole moved from basketball at Mt. Eden High to a crash-course in football at Chabot College and Washington State, earning Region I All-State First Team as a Chabot sophomore. The Chiefs added him from the practice squad after starter Josh Simmons went to injured reserve. Pole credits Coach Eric Fanene and Chabot’s staff for his development and hopes his improbable path to the NFL inspires others.
