"[But] of course I would love for him to be here. Of course I would love for him to be the quarterback. Especially off this year. I feel like he needs to show everybody and prove to everybody that he is that top-tier quarterback. So I would love to have him. I would love to work with him and show everybody that he is that No. 1 guy."
"those habits that he had that we felt hindered him throughout the season, just working on those little itty bitty pits of his game."
Justin Jefferson wants J.J. McCarthy retained as the Minnesota Vikings' quarterback and plans offseason work with him to eliminate habits that hindered performance. Jefferson needs 53 receiving yards in the next game to reach 1,000 yards for the season after starting all 16 games and playing 95% of offensive snaps. Jefferson has never finished a season under 1,000 receiving yards, even after missing seven games in 2023 with a hamstring injury. Jefferson recorded fewer than 50 receiving yards in seven of the Vikings' last nine games, all starts by McCarthy or rookie Max Brosmer. Jefferson's only 100-yard games in 2025 came in Weeks 4 and 5 with backup Carson Wentz, and the season produced the least productive receiving totals of his career while the team missed the playoffs.
