Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked five times and committed five turnovers in a Week 9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. With bumps, bruises and frustration still fresh, Jones contacted his longtime mentor and Duke coach David Cutcliffe the same evening for a detailed review. Cutcliffe said they did a deep dive and that he mostly listened. Cutcliffe reminded Jones to keep two hands on the football to avoid strip-sacks and offered perspective, quoting Rudyard Kipling’s stanza about treating Triumph and Disaster the same. Cutcliffe remains Jones’s closest football confidant.
