How Patriots have reportedly tried to resolve fumble issues
"The Patriots lost four fumbles in their loss to the Steelers last week. Rhamondre Stevenson won't be disciplined for his two lost fumbles against the Steelers in Week 3, but the Patriots are still putting an emphasis on ball security ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Panthers. The Patriots had some focus on ball security in every practice period this week, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported Saturday."
""They have been drilling it constantly," Russini wrote. "Every practice period had some element of ball security, with ball carriers hammering on technique and everyone else hammering on protecting the guy with the ball. Now it just has to show up." Stevenson's two fumbles only accounted for half of the Patriots' lost fumbles in Week 3. Backup running back Antonio Gibson and quarterback Drake Maye each lost a fumble as well."
""If you're asking me if Rhamondre is on some sort of discipline, no," Vrabel said on Friday. "The discipline is we need our best players to play in a game and do their job and take care of football. And we all have to do that. Drake had an interception and a fumble. We're not going to play Josh [Dobbs] right now.""
Patriots lost four fumbles in Week 3 against the Steelers, including two by running back Rhamondre Stevenson, plus turnovers by Antonio Gibson and quarterback Drake Maye. The team entered Week 4 with the most lost fumbles in the league. Practices emphasized ball security in every period, including technique drills for ball carriers and protection drills for teammates. Stevenson will not be disciplined with reduced playing time, and coaching staff expects top players to remain on the field and correct the issue. The team acknowledged last season's fumble problems as well, with Stevenson and Maye recording multiple fumbles.
