Former Patriots coach Jerod Mayo makes appearance at Tennessee football game
"Mayo, who starred at Tennessee before being selected No. 10 overall by the Patriots in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft, was recognized by his alma mater with a Jumbotron shoutout during the game. Mayo has not made many public appearances since the Patriots fired him at the end of last season. New England fired Mayo after one season at the helm in January following a win against the Buffalo Bills that brought the Patriots' record to 4-13, the same record that Bill Belichick had in his final season."
"The win was costly for the Patriots in terms of draft position. They had a shot at the No. 1 overall pick, but ended up dropping to No. 4 where New England took left tackle Will Campbell. Both Mayo and quarterback Joe Milton - who led the Patriots to victory in that final Buffalo game - attended University of Tennessee."
