Jason Sanders suffered a hip injury in the preseason and will miss at least a month, making him unavailable for the start of the regular season. Surgery is not believed to be necessary; recovery time is expected. The Dolphins plan to add a kicker before their opener against the Colts. Running back Jaylen Wright is also expected to miss the season start after suffering a leg injury during joint practice and is listed as week to week. Starter De'Von Achane has a calf injury but is expected to be ready for Week 1 with cautious management.
"I don't anticipate him being available at the beginning of the season," he said Monday. "To our knowledge, surgery is not necessary, but time is."
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said after the game that he wasn't concerned about Sanders' availability for their regular season opener against the Indianapolis Colts but confirmed Monday that the kicker wouldn't be available for the start of the season.
McDaniel described the second year back as "week to week" but expects him to return in the "foreseeable future."
McDaniel said Achane is expected to be ready for Week 1 but the team is being cautious considering his explosive athleticism and the risk of rushing back from calf injuries.
