Drake Maye's 'full-circle' moment against Jets showed how much Patriots' fortunes have changed
""Yeah, man, I remember being nervous," Maye recalled last month. "It was a night game. I was sitting on the sideline most of the game, and got thrown in there at the end, I think we ran [a play] and [a defender] almost baited me into my first interception. But no, it was cool. We got to drive down there and made some throws, got smacked a few times. So that was cool being in there. I think that was a cool environment.""
""It's just pretty funny looking back," Maye said. "The stadium was pumped for that Thursday night game. It was kind of a full-circle moment of how far we've come, and the flip side of things this year compared to last and how much fun we're having this year compared to last.""
Drake Maye made his NFL debut on Sept. 19, 2024, entering late in a 24-3 loss at MetLife Stadium. Jacoby Brissett took five sacks that game while Maye went 4-for-8 for 22 yards and was sacked twice. A year later the Patriots returned to MetLife and defeated the Jets 42-10. Maye threw five touchdown passes before coaches removed him in the third quarter and surpassed 4,000 passing yards during the game. Maye has advanced from a nervous rookie to a top-3 MVP candidate in his second season as New England improved markedly from the prior year.
