"We've got to get him back. We need him. We absolutely need him."
"We need his ability, but we also need to take care of the football."
"It's a long answer to tell you that I'm not really sure 20 minutes after the game what we're going to do, but we need him because he helped us win the game last week, and it was a different story today."
The Patriots lost 21-14 to the Steelers after five turnovers, including two fumbles by Rhamondre Stevenson that derailed a key drive. Coach Mike Vrabel called the turnovers "very unfortunate" and emphasized Stevenson's value, saying the team needs him and must get him back. Vrabel said the Patriots require Stevenson's ability but also improved ball security and that they were unsure of immediate next steps. Stevenson acknowledged his ongoing fumbling problem, noted seven fumbles last season, and said he trained with heavier footballs in the offseason to correct the issue. Stevenson said he must hold onto the ball to retain value.
