Dolphins start making roster cuts ahead of Tuesday deadline
Briefly

The Miami Dolphins began roster cuts Monday ahead of the 4 p.m. Tuesday deadline to set an initial 53-player active roster. Running back Aaron Shampklin was notified he was waived after being signed Aug. 11 following the preseason opener in Chicago. Shampklin and Mike Boone were added the same day after veteran Alexander Mattison was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Boone outperformed Shampklin in two exhibition games and scored a 7-yard touchdown in the preseason finale against Jacksonville. Boone remains a roster longshot unless injuries occur to second-year running back Jaylen Wright. Additional cuts are expected before the Tuesday deadline.

Boone outperformed Shampklin in the two exhibition games, even going for a 7-yard touchdown in Saturday's preseason finale win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Boone also seems like a roster longshot, though, unless Miami gets bad injury news on second-year running back Jaylen Wright.
