Dolphins' rookie draft class unspectacular but gaining valuable experience
"MIAMI GARDENS - When rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers takes the field Sunday against Cincinnati at Hard Rock Stadium, he'll be the sixth member of the Dolphins' eight-man 2025 draft class to start a game this season. That's significant considering the Dolphins and coach Mike McDaniel made a philosophical change this season, relying on draftees and youngsters instead of veterans. The rookie draftees has been so-so overall."
"Ewers performed well on the scout team, the unit that emulates the opponent in practice, according to players. For example, outside linebacker Bradley Chubb said Ewers is adept at no-look passes. Ewers attributes much of his practice success to preparation. " I think I've done a good job of studying, even though I'm not getting any reps with the (starters) prior to this week," he said."
Quinn Ewers will start, becoming the sixth of Miami's eight-man 2025 draft class to start this season. The Dolphins shifted to relying on draftees and youngsters instead of veterans. The rookie class has been so-so without a breakout superstar, but members are receiving significant playing time that advances the franchise's transition. Five draftees (Kenneth Grant, Jonah Savaiinaea, Jordan Phillips, Dante Trader Jr., Ollie Gordon Jr.) have played all 14 games. Savaiinaea is the only offensive player to play every down from scrimmage (813 snaps). Jason Marshall Jr. and Zeek Biggers have played at least six games and have not started. Ewers impressed on the scout team and credits preparation for his practice success.
