Dolphins GM Chris Grier discusses offseason approach, relays confidence in CBs, O-line
Briefly

The Miami Dolphins shifted their offseason approach from heavy free-agent spending to fiscal restraint, emphasizing cap management and youth via the draft. General manager Chris Grier described the move as a financial reset driven by unsustainable contract trends after prior aggressive signings and the end of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's rookie-cost advantage. The team retained competitive goals for 2025, aiming to play well late in the season and reach the playoffs rather than rebuild. Roster adjustments included trimming to a 53-man roster and targeted veteran additions, most notably signing cornerback Rasul Douglas while continuing to address the secondary.
We've had years here where it's been all draft-focused for a couple of years and then, at some point, you have to reset. When you go and you make aggressive moves like we had made for a few years, you have to reset again and start it over because it's just not sustainable the way the contracts are with players and what they're making now.
In terms of reset, it was just talking about the money philosophy and spending and stuff. We were always going to try and win this season. It's all about winning in 2025. It was never going to be a step back.
For me, our goals are always to be playing good football in December and January and win games. Ultimately yeah, our goal is to get in the playoffs and try and win games.
