The Miami Dolphins relieved Mike McDaniel of his duties as head coach after evaluating the season and determining the organization needs comprehensive change. Owner Steve Ross thanked McDaniel for his hard work, creativity and the energy he brought to the team and wished him and his family well. Miami has not contacted John Harbaugh, and moving on from McDaniel was independent of the ongoing general manager search. The Dolphins are down to four GM finalists and plan to finish that search before hiring a new head coach. McDaniel had said he remained coach until told otherwise.
