Miami made multiple roster moves ahead of the 53-player deadline, including signing cornerback Rasul Douglas and releasing outside linebacker Quinton Bell. Bell played all 17 games in 2024 with 372 special-teams snaps, 257 defensive snaps, three starts and one sack, but lost his spot after the team changed special teams coordinators. Competition at outside linebacker increased with Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb returning, Chop Robinson entering year two, and Matthew Judon added late in camp. The Dolphins waived Derrick McLendon and Grayson Murphy after strong camps, and reported early cuts included receivers Erik Ezukanma, Theo Wease Jr., Andrew Armstrong, plus several defensive backups.
The Dolphins first made the splash news signing of cornerback Rasul Douglas Tuesday morning. Bell doesn't make Miami's initial 53 in 2025 as the team changed special teams coordinators, from Danny Crossman to Craig Aukerman. Bell played in all 17 games for the Dolphins in 2024, contributing 372 special teams snaps while also in on 257 defensive snaps and starting three games on the edge, notching a sack along the way.
Defensive snaps were going to be much harder to come by this season at outside linebacker, with Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb back from injury, Chop Robinson heading into his second season and the Dolphins adding veteran former Pro Bowl edge rusher Matthew Judon deep into training camp. As for the special teams play, fellow outside linebacker Cameron Goode could be that piece on the unit.
Other reported roster cuts to come out early Tuesday, according to various outlets, include wide receivers Erik Ezukanma, Theo Wease Jr. and Andrew Armstrong, defensive tackle Matt Dickerson, cornerback BJ Adams and safeties Patrick McMorris and John Saunders Jr. Ezukanma again misses out on a roster spot as he still only has one career regular-season reception after being a fourth-round selection of the Dolphins in 2022.
