Dolphins ask to interview Chargers' Chad Alexander for GM job, report says

"Alexander becomes the eighth known candidate to interview for the general manager job joining Champ Kelly, the Dolphins interim general manager; Josh Williams, San Francisco 49ers' director of scouting/football operations; Tariq Ahmad, 49ers' vice president of player personnel; RJ Gillen, 49ers' assistant general manager; Jon-Eric Sullivan, Green Bay Packers' vice president of player personnel; Alec Halaby, Philadelphia Eagles' assistant general manager; and John McKay, Los Angeles Rams' assistant general manager."

"Alexander, 49, the son of Hubbard Alexander, a former Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach, is in his 26th NFL season and his first season with the Chargers. Before joining the Chargers, Chad Alexander spent the previous five seasons with the New York Jets as their director of player personnel and before that he spent 20 seasons in Baltimore, mostly in the scouting department."

"Among those involved to some extent in deciding the Dolphins' next general manager are owner Stephen Ross, team president Tom Garfinkel, Brandon Shore, the senior vice president of football and business administration, Hall of Fame quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Dan Marino, and coach Mike McDaniel. It's not known to what extent McDaniel is involved in the interview or hiring process. There's no known timetable for the Dolphins to make their decision on hiring a general manager."

Alexander is 49 and in his 26th NFL season, currently in his first season with the Chargers. He spent five seasons with the New York Jets as director of player personnel and 20 seasons in Baltimore, including a promotion in 2009 to assistant director of pro and college personnel. Alexander attended the NFL Front Office & General Manager Accelerator Program in December 2024. He is the eighth known candidate. Key decision figures include owner Stephen Ross, Tom Garfinkel, Brandon Shore, Troy Aikman, Dan Marino and coach Mike McDaniel. There is no known hiring timetable. The Dolphins fired former general manager Chris Grier on Halloween.
