"The Washington Commanders' front seven could not stop the Atlanta Falcons from running, and their secondary looked largely helpless against Michael Penix Jr. and the wide receivers. Inevitably, that left Dan Quinn's squad licking their wounds in defeat, putting them two games behind the Philadelphia Eagles. The fact that Washington dropped the game is not a shock. The offense played without Jayden Daniels for the second straight week."
"Including others previously lost to injury or benched, more than half of the offensive starters from Week 1 were not on the field against Atlanta. If the Commanders were going to pull out a road victory, it was going to come courtesy of the defense. That unit was also missing a few projected starters but had most of its top playmakers available. They failed to match their opponents' intensity."
Washington's front seven failed to stop Atlanta's rushing attack and the secondary struggled against Michael Penix Jr. and the Falcons' receivers. The offense was significantly shorthanded, missing Jayden Daniels, two of its top three receivers, and the primary in-line blocking tight end, with more than half of Week 1 offensive starters absent. The defense, while having most top playmakers available, did not match Atlanta's intensity. The Falcons scored on their first three possessions and never trailed. Tackles were frequently missed, running backs broke contact, and receivers found too much space in man and zone coverages.
