"Joe Vitt didn't [know], he spoke to the team [Wednesday] night and he went on and on about clinching [the AFC West title] and no one said anything and I'm thinking, 'C'mon, Joe,'"
"[After the win] they had made a little hat and a T-shirt with tape and poured a little champagne on Joe. Obviously, we know, everyone kind of knows.'"
"Those are someone else's demons,'' Payton said of snapping the losing streak. "I heard that all the time in New Orleans -- 'You never won a playoff game' -- you"
The Denver Broncos defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 20-13 at Arrowhead Stadium, ending a nearly decade-long losing streak there. The victory moved Denver to 13-3 and kept the team positioned to clinch the AFC West title and vie for the AFC's No. 1 seed. Coach Sean Payton said nearly everyone knew the stakes before the game, except senior defensive assistant Joe Vitt, who spoke about clinching. Teammates celebrated Vitt after the win with a makeshift hat, a taped T-shirt and champagne. Denver can clinch the division if the Texans beat the Chargers, or clinch both with a win over Los Angeles.
