Bristol Motor Speedway is positioning itself to host an NHL game, leveraging its recent success with diverse sporting events. The venue, known as "The Last Great Coliseum," achieved record attendance for a college football game in 2016 and is set to break MLB attendance records. President Jerry Caldwell believes the track's large open space is ideal for hosting hockey and soccer. Executives from the NHL are visiting to evaluate the setting, while Speedway Motorsports CEO Marcus Smith shares ambitions for future developments, including the potential construction of a roof.
"We believe we will continue to show that Bristol Motor Speedway is a facility for lots of different types of events," said track president Jerry Caldwell. "You've got hockey and soccer that both make sense."
Marcus Smith, Speedway Motorsports CEO, stated, "The dream, I think, the thing that would be awesome to do, and we could do it, is to put a roof on Bristol one day."
