Westbrook fuels Kings, makes rebounding history
""Every night is a dogfight," Westbrook said. "Our schedule is pretty rough right now, but if we knuckle up and compete at a high level ... that's something I want to bring.""
""Humbly speaking, I'm the best rebounding guard ever," Westbrook said. "So if the ball come across the rim, I'm going to get it.""
""Oh," Westbrook said. "Honestly I didn't even know that. I'm going to need the game ball.""
Russell Westbrook, signed to the Sacramento Kings on a veteran minimum contract late in training camp, recorded his 204th career triple-double in his eighth game with his seventh NBA team. He finished with 23 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists in a 121-116 home win over the Golden State Warriors. The Kings were missing Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine and Keegan Murray; the Warriors were without Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green. Westbrook's 14th rebound became a tip pass for his 10th assist, his late rebounds preserved possessions, and a defensive play forced Brandin Podziemski out of bounds with 8.9 seconds left. Westbrook's 16 rebounds pushed his career total past Jason Kidd for the most rebounds by a guard (8,734).
