No. 22 St. John's defeated No. 3 UConn 81-72 at Madison Square Garden, ending UConn's 18-game winning streak. The victory was Rick Pitino's first top-five win since Feb. 1, 2016, and tied him with Roy Williams at 903 career Division I wins. St. John's emphasized toughness and physicality, outscoring UConn 42-34 in the paint, grabbing nine offensive rebounds and converting them into 16 second-chance points. Zuby Ejiofor provided an early offensive spark, initiating a quick 7-0 run that helped establish the Red Storm's lead.
