Santa Clara's NCAA tourney hopes remain after close loss to No. 12 Gonzaga
"All season long, we've been process-oriented. Going forward, we'll continue to do the same thing. The season is not over."
"They're an NCAA tournament team. Not only a tournament team, but a team that can win a game or games in the tournament,"
"That's why this is just a heckuva win. It took all we had. We were extremely resilient, but we had to dig probably as deep as we have all year, especially with this crowd and everything. Just a great college basketball game."
Santa Clara lost 94-86 to No. 12 Gonzaga before a rare sellout at Leavey Center, snapping a nine-game win streak and suffering its first home defeat in 14 games. Gonzaga improved to 25-2 (13-1 WCC) while Santa Clara fell to 22-6 (13-2), costing the Broncos a boost to their No. 41 NET ranking and complicating hopes for a first NCAA bid since 1996. Gonzaga coach Mark Few called Santa Clara an NCAA-caliber team and described a resilient, hard-fought victory. Santa Clara has three regular-season games remaining before the WCC tournament in Las Vegas. Gonzaga will leave the WCC for the rebuilt Pac-12 next season.
