"The most important player for the Toronto Raptors in their season-opening victory was not Scottie Barnes or Brandon Ingram or RJ Barrett or Immanuel Quickley. The most important player scored just seven points in his 17 minutes of play. Yet what Sandro Mamukelashvili unlocked for the Raptors' offense could change the entire trajectory for this franchise. Toronto largely brought back its entire roster from last season."
"Added to the mix was a single free agent signing of note: Sandro Mamukelashvili, a 6'9" stretch big from Georgia -- the country, not the state. He came to Toronto by way of the San Antonio Spurs, where he averaged 11 minutes and six points per game last season. He signed a two-year, $5.3 million contract to be the Raptors' backup center."
Sandro Mamukelashvili played 17 minutes and scored seven points but unlocked the Raptors' offense in the season-opening victory. Toronto returned most of its roster from last season but lacked continuity as core players rarely played together and Brandon Ingram missed the previous season after being acquired at the trade deadline. Mamukelashvili, a 6'9" stretch big from Georgia, signed a two-year, $5.3 million deal after averaging 11 minutes and six points with the Spurs. In a 138-118 win over the Hawks, RJ Barrett had 25 points, Barnes 22-6-9, Ingram 16 and Gradey Dick 21 off the bench. The new spacing and lineups could meaningfully alter the team's trajectory.
