Though Powell is not someone Miami can trust to table-set for others, his shooting and rim pressure will come in handy during Herro's absence. The Heat faltered last season, in particular, to generate consistent rim pressure and free-throw opportunities following Jimmy Butler's exit. Powell is going to help fill those gaps."
Tyler Herro will miss at least a month following left foot/ankle surgery, removing a primary shot-maker and passer from the Miami rotation. Norman Powell's acquisition offsets that loss by providing perimeter shooting, rim pressure, and an ability to draw fouls. Powell averaged over six rim attempts per 100 possessions last season, a rate matched in the Heat rotation only by Kel'el Ware and Jaime Jaquez Jr. Powell also generated free-throws on about 16 percent of his two-point attempts last year, a mark only Andrew Wiggins matched among Miami players with 1,200+ minutes. Powell's strengths help address specific scoring and free-throw creation gaps.
