"I think that has been big for me," Porter said Tuesday. "Just coming to a new city and feeling a little bit of being overwhelmed, just to have a guy as a head coach that I am working with every day, somebody like Jordi."
"He's an elite shooter ... great rebounder and great cutter," said Fernandez."
"The good thing is I have a previous relationship with him and that makes it a little easier for me. But I am going to ask him to do things he's never done before and for those reasons I think he's up for the challenge."
Michael Porter Jr. joined the Brooklyn Nets in July in a trade that sent Cam Johnson and a 2032 first-round pick to Denver. Porter reunited with coach Jordi Fernandez, who previously served as a Nuggets assistant, easing Porter's acclimation to New York. Porter averaged 18.2 points, shot 50.4% from the field and 39.5% from three last season in Denver. The Nets intend to make Porter a focal offensive piece alongside five first-round rookies and veteran guard Cam Thomas. Fernandez praised Porter's shooting, rebounding and cutting and plans to expand Porter's responsibilities.
